The company's researchers have prepared a list of virus and malware attacks by country picked up by AVG security software. Data has been collected from nearly 127 Million systems in 144 countries to determine the incidence rates of such attacks.

Turkey dominates the league table for the world's riskiest web surfers, with AVG's software protected one in 10 using the Internet. Web users in Russia (1 in 14 were hit), Armenia (1 in 24), and Azerbaijan (1 in 39) also face high rates of attacks.

Some other areas where web surfers are at risk are - Bangladesh (1 in 41), Pakistan (1 in 48) and Vietnam and Laos (where the chances of facing an attack are both 1in 42).

The US holds ninth position in terms of the riskiest places to access Internet (1 in 48), UK holds 31st position (1 in 63), while German web surfers are at 41 position (1 in 83).

Internationally, the chances of being attacked while online on any day are 1 in 73.

On the other hand, some of the world's safest surfers can be found in Taiwan and Japan, while seven out of ten safest countries to surf the Internet are in Africa. South America was the safest continent.

AVG spokesperson, Roger Thomson, said there are several reasons for this. Some of them could be because of a tendency to use semi-legal or unauthentic download websites, whereas some of them probably are related to negligence while sharing links and files online. Another main reason is the popularity of Internet cafes and people usually sharing systems, as per the reports by memeburn on August 25, 2010.

He adds that even in these countries, a small number of users represent a large share of attacks.
